About

The Emily Dickinson International Society will hold its triennial International Conference “Dickinson and Foreignhood” at the College of Philology, University of Seville, from July 12 to 14, 2022. Immediately preceding and following the conference program, the Society plans meetings of its Critical Institute and Translation Workshop.

The Seville College of Philology is located in the heart of the city, just a stone’s throw from the Guadalquivir River, the “Archivo General de Indias,” the “Real Alcázar,” the “Catedral,” and the old quarter known as the “Barrio de Santa Cruz.” The “Jardines de Murillo,” “Parque de María Luisa,” and “Plaza de España” are also very near, thus offering, along with the historic College of Philology itself, numerous lovely places for meeting and speaking. Seville is easy to get to, by plane or on the excellent Spanish train system. Many hotels and hostels are very near the College. Spanish and Andalusian cuisine is memorably fine, and there are also numerous coffee and snack (“tapas”) bars very near the conference site.

We are assuming that the global health situation will be such that the Emily Dickinson International Society will be able to meet in Seville to renew its work in advancing knowledge of and spreading the word about the poet’s writing. If health concerns do not allow a safe gathering, online venues will take the place of those that are planned.
